Meet Eric Jenkins

Insurance Agent Eric Jenkins Indio Ca

I am Eric Jenkins, happily married to my wonderful wife, Jacquelin, for 37 years, and more in love with her than ever. Together, we have three children and two grandchildren. For 21 years, I had the privilege of serving in ministry in Algeria, France, Mali, and Spain. As an educator, I loved seeing my students blossom into their best selves. This multicultural experience provided me with a deeper understanding of other perspectives and increased my empathy for people of all races and languages. I can still speak a little French when needed.

Insurance Agent Eric Jenkins Indio Ca – Professional Background

My background in education has shown me the importance of making sure my clients understand the complex language of insurance, enabling them to make informed decisions on how to best protect their families and assets. I take the time to listen to my clients’ needs and budgets, then work with them to craft the best policy options.

I have been an insurance agent for Farmers since 2018 and am also a broker for Aegis, Bamboo, Pacific Specialty, Foremost, Access ONE80, and many other companies. Because of my time living in Lake Arrowhead, I have become a specialist in working with the California Fair Plan.

Insurance Agent Eric Jenkins Indio Ca – Personal Interests

I grew up in Indiana, so I still love basketball, especially March Madness. I enjoy playing Pickleball at my Four Seasons Terra Lago community and occasionally compete in local tournaments. I am a loyal, though sometimes frustrated, fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Reds. Who remembers the glory days of the Purple People Eaters and the Big Red Machine? I love the challenge of managing several Fantasy Football teams every year and enjoy reading, especially science fiction.

Jacquelin and I regularly attend services at The Garden Fellowship in Indio. We also enjoy all types of music, but are particularly fond of smooth jazz concerts under the desert sky.

Insurance Insights

Why is it so difficult to get home insurance?

Wildfires:

In California, wildfires have cost insurance companies billions in claims. In November of 2018 alone, the California Insurance Commissioner estimated losses from wildfires were over $11.4 billion. This has led many insurers, like State Farm and Allstate, to stop writing new home insurance policies in California.

Extreme Winter Storms:

Collapsed roofs, decks, and frozen pipes causing floods have resulted in expensive claims. Some insurance companies now require the installation of whole-home water leak detection devices to prevent water losses in homes over 30 years of age.

Fewer Insurance Providers:

With many insurers no longer writing new home insurance policies, those still willing to write new policies are overwhelmed with demand. This increases the time it takes to get a new policy and raises the rates these insurers charge.

What’s the Solution?

Government Intervention:

The California Insurance Department is working with insurance companies to make it easier and cheaper for homeowners to get insurance. However, the process is complicated and results are not yet evident.

Apply Early: Agents have fewer options to help clients get insurance, and those companies still writing new policies are overwhelmed with demand. Apply for home insurance early to avoid delays in your closing.

Choose Higher Deductibles:

Turning in small claims to insurance companies will cost you more in increased premiums than they will save you at the time of a claim. Choosing a higher deductible can substantially lower your premium while still providing protection from catastrophic loss.

Top 3 Reasons Real Estate Transactions Fall Out at the Last Minute

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance:

Ensure that the names you provide to your insurance agent match those on your mortgage or deed. If you are purchasing a home in the name of a Trust, inform your agent from the start. Incorrect information can force the agent to start from scratch on a new policy.

Apply for insurance early. Quotes now often take 3-5 days to get back from carriers. Adjusting coverages and deductibles to match client desires, and completing and signing binding documents can take several days or even a week. Apply for home insurance as soon as you open escrow to ensure your policy is ready for closing.

Provide your insurance agent with your mortgage broker’s contact information early. Your lender will require specific language to be written into your insurance policy. Ensure your agent is in contact with your lender or escrow agent as soon as possible to avoid delays on closing day.
